What are the objectives of the sixth cycle of the EU Youth Dialogue – Youth in Europe?

What are the objectives of the sixth cycle of the EU Youth Dialogue – Youth in Europe?

The previous cycle, which took place in 2017/2018, was to gather the voices of young people and contribute together to the creation of the EU Youth Strategy 2019-2027. As a result, eleven European Youth Objectives were developed.

These objectives reflect the views of young Europeans and represent the vision of those active in EU youth dialogue.

The objectives are 11, here they are in detail:

  • Connecting the EU with young people

  • Equality of all sexes

  • Inclusive societies

  • Information and constructive dialogue

  • Mental health and well-being

  • Moving rural youth forward

  • Quality employment for all

  • Quality learning

  • Space and participation for all

  • Sustainable green Europe

  • Youth organisations and European programmes

The EU Youth Strategy should contribute to the realisation of this youth vision by mobilising EU policy instruments and actions at national, regional and local level of all stakeholders.

The EU Youth Strategy is the framework for EU cooperation on youth policy for 2019-2027, based on the Council Resolution of 26 November 2018. EU cooperation in the youth field should maximise the potential of youth policy. It promotes the participation of young people in democratic life, supports social and civic engagement and aims to ensure that all young people have the necessary resources to participate in society.

The EU Youth Strategy focuses on three key areas for action, around the three words:

  • Involve

  • Connect

  • Empower

working at the same time on joint implementation between sectors.

In the course of a 2017-2018 dialogue process involving young people from all over Europe, 11 European Youth Targets were developed. These objectives identify cross-sectoral areas that affect young people’s lives and highlight challenges. The EU Youth Strategy should contribute to this vision of young people. This Strategy is based on a number of instruments, such as mutual learning activities, planners of future national activities, the EU Youth Dialogue, the EU Youth Strategy Platform and testing tools. The European Youth Coordinator is the visible contact and reference point of the European Commission for Youth.
